Introduction
Restores can be done in two ways, either automatically or by downloading. Neither overrides any existing data and can be used to review and compare.
NOTE
In relation to GitLab, when projects is mentioned, we mean repositories. They are synonymous.
The restore of projects encompasses the repository.
IMPORTANT
All restores create a new entry in your GitLab account.
Step 1
Navigate to the left menu and select GitLab under Your Protected Applications.
Step 2
Find your chosen backup, whether it be a project or snippet and select View.
Step 3
Review which restore point you want and select Restore.
Alternatively, if you wish to keep a download of your item, select Download .ZIP.
NOTE
The Zip will contain a .git and various .json files (for the appropriate metadata). It is your responsibility what you do with this.
Step 4
At the modal, review the details of the backup.
The item will by default share the same name but with Restored clearly identifiable at the end. You also have the option to rename it entirely under Restored item name.
Additionally, you can add multiple email address for notification receipts under Send notification to…
Step 5
Once you have confirmed the details, select Restore.
Finally, select Continue.
Step 6
Go to your GitHub account under either Your projects or Your snippets to confirm the successful restoration.
